Family Discovery Day: Wonderful Weather
Learn about the wonders of weather with hands-on activities. Create a tornado in a bottle and a cloud in a jar, and make an anemometer to take home. All activities are included in the museum's pay-what-you-want admission.
Outreach Exhibit: Can You Dig It?
Can You Dig It? Archaeology in the Coastal Bend. This outreach exhibit on display at Victoria City Hall, 105 W. Juan Linn, Victoria, beginning Thursday, July 23, 2020. From the early peoples of the Coastal Bend to the French explorers that voyaged on La Belle, the historical inhabitants of Texas left behind many clues about their lives. The outreach exhibit, Can You Dig It?, sponsored by MCB at Victoria City Hall, explores the archaeological process that has unearthed more than 13,000 years of Texas history. Visit the exhibit and discover how the Coastal Bend Archaeological Logistics Team (CoBALT) methodically excavates artifacts at the dig site and how they process these relics in the museum’s Public Archaeology Lab.
Family Discovery Day: Fun Science
Participants can make marshmallow catapults, create butterflies with coffee filters and markers, and engineer paper airplanes. Coke and Mentos volcanoes will erupt at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on the front lawn. All activities are included in the museum's pay-what-you-want admission.
Members Reception: Coronavirus at the Coastal Bend
How has our community weathered the COVID-19 pandemic? What impact has it had on local residents? Coronavirus at the Coastal Bend tells the stories of our community as we adapt to this crisis, gathered by MCB staff and community members. MCB closed its doors on March 17, 2020 in accord with CDC guidelines, and reopened on May 5. During the closure, museum staff began documenting community experiences by collecting first-hand accounts, contributed photos and videos. This exhibit is organized in partnership with the Victoria Advocate - Emree Weaver, Chief Photographer, and with Bria Woods, Executive Producer-Digital at The Victoria Television Group. The exhibit opens to the public on August 14, 2020, and will be on display through January 23, 2021.
Lunch & Learn: Coronavirus at the Coastal Bend
The museum’s exhibits manager, Heather Para, visits with contributors to the temporary exhibit, Coronavirus at the Coastal Bend, on exhibit August 14, 2020 through January 23, 2021 at MCB. Together, they explore exhibit topics and images that capture the Coastal Bend’s response to the pandemic. Admission to this event is free. Attendees are invited to bring a brown bag lunch and join the discussion in-person or virtually, as circumstances allow.

Hear from members of the Coastal Bend Archaeological Logistics Team (CoBALT), who began working together 17 years ago during the excavation of the Fort St. Louis site and who now volunteer in the museum’s Public Archaeology Lab. They share their experiences, knowledge, and preservation efforts. Admission to this event is free.
