SCAVENGER HUNT

Students will explore the museum to find key artifacts,
learn how they were used, where they came from, and why they were valuable.

Objectives (TEKS): 4.1 History. The student understands the similarities and differences between the Native American groups in Texas before European exploration. 4.9 Geography The student understands how people adapt to and modify their environment. 4.10 Economics The student understands the basic economic patterns of early societies in Texas. 4.13. Economics The student understands how Texas, the United States, and other parts of the world are economically interdependent. 4.20 Culture The student understands the contributions of people of various racial, ethnic, and religious groups to Texas. 7.2 History The student understands how individuals, events, and issues prior to the Texas Revolution shaped the history of Texas. 7.19 Culture The student understands the concept of diversity within unity in Texas. HS US History The Student will interpret and use multiple sources of evidence. HS World History The student will identify ways archeologists analyze limited evidence.

Materials: List of artifacts to locate

Background: Objects (artifacts) tell the story of how people lived. Some artifacts were discarded their owners and later discovered by archeologists. Other artifacts were saved by families and donated to museums.

Student Activity: As students view exhibits in the Museum of the Coastal Bend, they will note and draw key artifacts.

Student Product: Completed chart of artifacts found in the museum.

Closure: As a group, discuss why the listed artifacts are important to understand the history of Victoria County.

Assessment/Evaluation: Quality of completed list. List should contain at least 5 artifacts, etc.
